Just when you thought Florida couldn’t surprise you anymore, along comes Anastasia Island. It’s like discovering a secret level in your favorite video game – exciting, unexpected, and you can’t wait to explore every corner of it.

Where Exactly is Anastasia Island, FL?

St Augustine actually has some overlap with Anastasia Island. Much like all of Florida, you have a land and then a bridge to take you onto an island (technically). So, Anastasia Island is literally a drive over the bridge from St. Augustine. It stretches all the way down to Ft Matanzas.

What are Some Things to do in Anastasia Island?

There’s no doubt St Augustine is one of the coolest places in Florida. The history. The beaches. The alligator farms, this place has it all… and a whole lot more!

Fort Matanzas: More Than Just a Fort

Let’s start with the staple. Fort Matanzas, a fort soaked in Spanish colonial history. Take the free ferry ride over – it’s like a mini-adventure before the adventure. Explore the grounds, soak up some sun, and get a mini-history lesson while you’re at it. If you’re a geek for forts and history (like I am)  you gotta check this place out!

Butler Beach: Not Your Average Sandbox

Butler Beach is the local’s best-kept secret, and now you’re in on it. It’s a really great spot for those who love the beach but could do without a crowd. It reminds me of the peace and tranquility you would experience in a laid-back, Caribbean Island. Not many people, and very local.

MLK Jr. Site: Where History Meets Today

One of the most unique things to do in Anastasia Island. It’s known as the site of one of the most famous pictures of MLK Jr ever taken. A place owned by the Canright family and made it available to King anytime he was in town. It’s a powerful spot that reminds us of the strides we’ve made and the strides we’ve yet to take. And trust me, it’s a visit that sticks with you, leaving a bit more behind than footprints in the sand.

Salt Water Cowboys: Yeehaw Meets Yum

Ever had shrimp so good you need to sit down and take a moment? That’s Salt Water Cowboys for you. This isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience. With views over the marsh and that golden-hour glow, your meal here is gonna be one for the books – or at least, your socials.

Oasis Restaurant: Where the World Meets to Eat

When they say ‘World Famous’, they mean it. The Oasis Restaurant has got that vibe that says, “Come on in, the water’s fine.” It’s the perfect place for some American classics, fresh seafood and incredible views. Make a pitstop here and re fuel.

Ocean Hammock Park Walkway: Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Take a breather from the beach and wander the Ocean Hammock Park Walkway. It’s a boardwalk that lets you stroll above the dunes without disturbing the natural habitats. It’s a great spot to bird watch, people watch, or just get lost in your thoughts with the sound of the waves as your soundtrack.

St. Augustine Beach: Sun, Surf, and Sand

It’s one of the more relaxing things to do in Anastasia Island.  St. Augustine Beach has all the ingredients for a perfect beach day: soft sand, rolling waves, and just the right amount of seaside snack shacks. Bring a volleyball, a surfboard, or just a good book – this beach is ready for whatever chill means to you.

Alligator Farm: Get Snappy With It

Alligator Farm is where you come face-to-face with creatures that are essentially living dinosaurs. It’s thrilling, it’s educational, and let’s be honest, it’s kind of badass. Check out the zip line if you really want to elevate your visit – literally.

St. Augustine Lighthouse: Because Heights Are Cool

The St. Augustine Lighthouse is where you get those views that have you saying “Wow!” every time. Climb to the top, catch your breath, and catch those views. It’s a bit of a climb, but hey, the best views come after the hardest climbs, right?

Anastasia State Park: Nature’s Playground

Anastasia State Park is like the VIP room of the island. You’ve got camping, trails, water sports, and scenery that’ll have you snapping pics left and right. It’s a total escape into the wild, and it’s all yours to enjoy.

Take a stroll down the Matanzas Trail and get to know the quieter side of the island. It’s peaceful, it’s perfect for a leisurely walk or a reflective solo trip. It’s where you go to hear the stories the island has to whisper.
