[2024] 15 Unique Things to do in Daytona Beach | Secret Places 🤫
Every “Daytona Beach guide” search on Google usually gives you the same boring results: The Speedway. The Boardwalk. Blah, blah. They’re fun and all, but we wanted to make a list of more unique things to do in Daytona Beach.
These are some unique and fun places to go to (some of which don’t break the bank). We’ve expanded the radius to include some places close to Daytona as well. So buckle up and enjoy the scenic views and historic sites that the Daytona Beach area has to offer:
Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park
Definitely one of the most unique things to do in Daytona Beach. That’s Bulow Plantation Ruins for you. Think eerie yet captivating ruins, old sugar mill stories, and trails that look like they’re straight out of a fairy tale. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but hey, that’s the charm, right? Pack a picnic, bring your explorer hat, and let’s time travel to the 19th century.
Lilian Place Heritage Centre
I’m a sucker for history. And if you are too, Lilian Place is the ultimate historic site in the area. It’s the original home of one of the founding families of Daytona Beach. Walk through its rooms, and you’ll practically hear the whispers of the past. Perfect for a mellow, reflective day or just when you’re in the mood for some good ol’ nostalgia. Not to mention it’s an experience that won’t break the bank
Kayak to Secret Islands
If the winds are quiet, I’d highly recommend taking out (or renting) a kayak and visiting the many islands that are on the Halifax River. When you get there, you feel like Tom Hanks in Castaway (except not in any danger). It’s quiet, peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Pack a backpack with some food and drinks and enjoy a private island getaway in Daytona! Trust me, it’s fun.
Beach Street
This place is one of my personal faves. Beach Street is where Daytona’s heart beats loud and clear. It’s a colorful mash-up of unique shops, quirky cafes, and the kind of local vibe that makes you feel like a part of the community. Stroll down this street, and you’ll see Daytona’s soul unfold in the most vibrant ways. It’s casual, it’s fun, and it’s oh-so-Daytona.
Stetson Mansion
If you’ve got some time, head out to DeLand and visit the Stetson Mansion. This place? It’s like stepping into a time capsule. This home was built in 1886 but was truly ahead of its time. It was the first ever home built in Florida that had Edison electricity, indoor plumbing, and steam heat. Luxuries that we now take for granted. It’s been remodeled and renovated and open for tours.
Norwood’s Restaurant & Treehouse Bar
Okay, imagine eating in a treehouse. Yep, you heard that right. Norwood’s isn’t your usual dinner spot. It’s like feasting in the treetops, with a view that’s as tasty as the menu. The vibe here? It’s like nature decided to throw a dinner party. Definitely a must-try for a funky, fun night out or a cute date. Treehouse dining – only in Daytona, folks!
Rockefeller House
Not only is it one of the most unique places to visit in Daytona Beach, it’s filled with American history. Nestled in the heart of Daytona is a slice of history that’s too good to miss – the Rockefeller House, a.k.a. The Casements. This grand old building was once the winter home of John D. Rockefeller and now serves as a cultural beacon, inviting all who love a good blend of history and charm. It’s not just a house; it’s a story – one that’s told through its elegant rooms and peaceful gardens. Spend an afternoon here, and you’ll walk away feeling a touch more regal than when you arrived.
Local Brewery (Ormond and New Smyrna)
Cheers to the crafty souls at the local breweries of Ormond and New Smyrna! These folks take their brews seriously, and trust me, one sip will tell you why. It’s where hops and creativity dance together in a pint glass. Each brewery has its own vibe, its own flavor, and its own story. Spend a day brewery-hopping, and find your new favorite ale. It’s not just about the beer; it’s about the stories, the laughs, and the clinking of glasses with friends old and new.
Ponce Inlet Dog Beach
Who says your furry friend can’t have a beach day too? Ponce Inlet Dog Beach is a slice of sandy heaven where your four-legged pals can run free, splash around, and make some tail-wagging buddies. It’s a great place for humans also. It’s the very tip of Ponce Inlet with a beautiful pier of rocks you can walk on (but safely). So, grab that frisbee, let your dog off the leash, and make some waves together!
Cigar Shops
In Daytona, even the cigar shops are a cut above. We’re talking walk-in humidors, leather armchairs, and an ambiance that’ll have you feeling like you’re in old Havana. The experts at Don Kiki’s and Daytona Cigar Club will guide you through a world of rich aromas and robust flavors, helping you pick the perfect cigar for a slow, satisfying smoke. Whether you’re a seasoned aficionado or a curious newbie, these shops are a must-visit for a taste of the good life.
Gametime Daytona
For the gamers, the fun-seekers, and the young at heart, Gametime Daytona is your digital playground. It’s an arcade that brings out the kid in everyone, with flashing lights and the sweet sound of victory tickets spitting out of machines. Whether you’re challenging your friends to a dance-off or racing to the finish line, Gametime is where you let loose, score some points, and have a blast while doing it.
Zanzibar Blu speakeasy
A Speakeasy is like that secret club from your favourite detective novel. They became prominent during the prohibition era where people could go and indulge in the (then) illegal activity of alcohol consumption. The Zanzibar Blu speakeasy is new to Daytona Beach. Inside, it’s all about the jazz bands, the clinking of glasses, and the low murmur of gossip and laughter. The lights are dim, the mood’s electric, and the air’s thick with smoke and secrets. Definitely one of the more unique things to do in Daytona Beach!
Uncle Chicken’s
The name might be funny, but the food is serious. Driving past Uncle Chicken’s on the North Dixie Freeway, you’ll see lines of grills and smokers filling the air with incredible smells. They have Texas-style BBQ with everything from ribs to brisket. With a nearly perfect rating on Google, this is a must-go.
Original McDonald’s
There aren’t many of these around anymore. We’re using to seeing the tall “M” perched up at nearly every exit. But the old McDonald’s restaurants had a different look. This place in New Smyrna has the original style building. Take a bite into history and sit down at this place while you’re here.
Ponce Inlet Preserve
If you enjoy a hike or a bike ride, the Ponce Inlet Preserve is a perfect little trail. Surrounded by forestry, it’s beautiful and scenic. Once you get to the end, you’ll end up at the Halifax River, where you can have a seat and enjoy the views. Not all Daytona Beach attractions have to break the bank and this is just one of the few that doesn’t.
Daytona Beach Golf Club
Florida is home to over 1,250 golf courses, and non better than the Daytona Beach Golf Club. This behemoth offers 36 holes, beautiful landscapes and, of course, beautiful weather (most of the time). This place has got everything. Driving range, training area, club rentals, you name it. If you come down to Daytona and you love golf, you gotta come here.
